While I consider minor financial folly by purchasing my first 3rd Rail engine(s). I understand that they only have TMCC but would they run okay in a consist/MU/lash up* with say Lionel engines running in a TMCC mode?
* Just covering my bases to make everybody unhappy.

I own a few of 3rd Rail diesels. The motor and drivetrain configurations are very different from other TMCC or Legacy equipped engines. The biggest different is engine speed. Even my very accommodating Electric Railroad (ERR) equipped engines won't MU with 3rd Rail engines.
I have a good number of non-powered engines in like road names that I use to build consists with my 3rd Rail engines. Of course it works for me because I model the Erie Lackawanna and its processors who mixed all kinds of power and paint in their consists.
