I have tried to research the status of the Lionel S3 mars light on/off issue.I would like to be able to turn it off if desired but I cannot seem to find a definitive answer on status.I do not want to open the S3 up and rewire stuff.I have updated my Legacy to 1.5 on Cab 2 and base.I also have the recent utility on my PC. Am I correct in saying one can configure the mars Light toggle by using the utility or is there some other fix. If I have missed the post that addresses this I would appreciate being pointed in right direction. Appreciate Al B.

You have V1.51 Legacy so you are all set to turn off
the Mars light on the S3.
With the S3 selected by the Cab 2, press and hold
AUX2 for about a second and a screen with only
light displays will come up on the cab2. One
of the icons will turn on/off the mars light.
If you look on Pg 37 of the manual for V1.5 it has
the Touch Screen Icons.
Thanks pa, I will try that tonight when I get home.Al B
If the Mars light is turned off in that manner, will it stay off if you later run the engine under TMCC or conventional? I don't have a Legacy setup, but I could take the engine to a friend's house and use his Legacy just to turn off the Mars light.
Sorry, the MARS is reset to "ON" at each power up.
The secondary lighting control screen comes up, Yahoo.Thank you Lionel. being a novice I even learned what a ' doghouse light was'. Thanks all.Al B

Thanks. I'll have to take it apart and disconnect the silly thing, but I'm reluctant to do that since removing the boiler voids the warranty.
Why not just upgrade to Legacy and turn it off with the buttons, you'll get more out of your S3 to boot. Do it now while theres still a decent market for second hand tmcc systems.

Instead of "taking it apart", just try opening the smokebox/front "door", and disconnecting the wires to the red light.

Sorry I asked.....
Legacy brings up a set of icons to control the lights
by pressing Aux2. Pressing the correct icon will turn off
the S3 mars light. The Legacy system may be
programmed to send out a set of words that only the
S3 can detect to turn off the mars light. By pressing
the correct sequency of buttons on the Cab1, the S3
mars light should turn off. When the mars light first came up
there was a post on the forum by Mike Regan about a sequence
of button presses to turn off the mars light.

I can't comment as to what Mike posted, but I can state that a Cab-1 *will not* allow the Mars to be turned off on the S3. I wrote the code, designed the hardware, and know this subject matter 100%
There are only so many key combinations on a Cab-1 that can be used for options, and it is simply not possible to create a series of key sequences for such lighting features that can be possibly remembered by the users.
