Santa Fe 3 rail scale E6

Generally, the sight of an engine, any engine, gives me a happy feeling.  These photos made my eyes pop and raised my heart rate.  Very nice job.  What a beauty!

Thank you, I just wanted folks to see that the quality of some Lionel diesels when modified can equal anything at just about any price. The trade off is wider curves are required.

I agree - some of the Lionel products are really scale models above the belt rail.

Speaking of which, can I twist your arm for a dimension?  On the flat side, from the very bottom to the top of the rail that runs above the large windows where the side joins the roof?  And if you have a B unit, the length?

My purposes are less than honorable, and involve aluminum and bronze.

Bob, the E6s???

Yes - I am considering just buying a B unit, cutting the sides off, and sending to the foundry.  I started a master pattern last month, but am not enjoying working with plastic.

Are these the new Lionel E6s and if they are can you send a video of yours?

These were older Scale lionels.  I did a whole series on how I modified these on OGR.

Thanks Ron - I was hoping for around 2 1/8", which would have worked for my old Adams sides.

Post an image of what you are measuring. That's a 1.25 inch difference on a scale model, think you both measured something different. 

Great job on the units!!

I may have misunderstood what Bob2 was asking. My measurement is from the top of the rail or track to the top of the vertical side.

Just measuring the vertical length of the flat side at the area Bob requested, it is 2.125 and some slight change. Closer to what ya'll reference.

Perfect!  I shall get one of these, and cut it up.  Way easier than making a pattern.
