Hi Everyone,

I am going to add some sort of signal to my layout via Lionel's 153 IR controller.

My first choice would be Lionel's automatic crossing gates #6-14098. I believe this is a scale product.

What devices do you have on your layout? How are yours activated?

I won't be doing any block signals because I just want the trains to run continuously.

Semaphore looks good with the signal bridge. Anyone using semaphore and how in-depth are you using it? I would just want the light colors to change as a train passes by.

I thank all in advance for your replies.

Sincerely,

Paul

Paul:  My favorite signal system is the Atlas/Custom Signals system.  It's really quite flawless in operation and is very flexible as to track arrangements, train direction, etc.  The one thing that might be a drawback is the type of track that you might be using.  If the two outside rails are connected on your track, like old style Lionel tubular track or MTH's Real Trax, the system won't work.  Track occupancy is determined by a contact between the outside rails, just as in real railroading.

If you are  using track wired with both outer rails connected, I believe that Z-Stuff has the best system.  They use a light sensor to detect the presence of a train and they do have some of the best signals around.  I've seen their smaphore block signals and I've been very impressed with their slow, realistic operation.

For crossing signals, Z-Stuff makes really nice crossing gates combined with light signals that are very realistic.
