Since family road trips in the 1950's, grinding across Kansas on two lane roads in July, in unairconditioned "comfort", I have had an interest in grain elevators, often then tall white concrete towers lettered "COOP", and I seek out and photograph them. But here I have scratchbuilt two I have never seen, the red one in Ill. from an MR article, and the white one (I have been near) in Silex, Mo., from an HO model kit (mine in O). The Silex is purported to be one of the first and earliest styles of elevators. The first is done in Evergreen styrene, the second in board and batten wooden siding. It will take up a lot of space..the Ill. "plain box" much less.
