I've got a Lionel Southern Mountain coming soon and plan on turning into a SAL Mountain.

From what I can tell, about the only thing I need to do is move the sand dome backwards a bit and relocate the sand piping and maybe part of the running boards.  Also need to move the bell.

The other thing I notice is the model shows windows on the cab:

s-l1601

The real engine doesn't show windows, just an opening:

Seaboard 4-8-2 Baldwin 250

Is it just that the windows are open, or could it be they didn't have windows that opened/closed?

Looks like I'll be making another Vanderbilt tender too (will these projects ever end?!?!?!).

SAL Mountains had a variety of Vanderbilt tenders, but I like the shape of this type the best.

Got the engine yesterday, beautiful!!!  I ran it back and forth on a test track and all is well.

This may have been a mistake, the engine is so nice I may leave it as is (well, the Southern DID come into Portsmouth after all).  That will give me 5 RRs now (SAL, ACL, N&W, NBPL, and now Southern).

I don't think the 4-8-2s ever came into Portsmouth, will have to check my books.
