Second Hook on Lionel Crane

I am sure that nothing like this was made, at least by Lionel. Other crane parts could be adapted.

 

However:

 

May I recommend that as an enjoyable styrene scratch building project for you. Quick, simple, cheap - like I like'em. Plastic, a file, a knife, string, black paint.

It seems odd that Lionel has the holes in the boom, but not the hook.

Searching ebay for alternate hooks I found that MTH makes the cranes with 2 and 3 hooks.

Too bad you can't order parts separately.

For what it's worth, the photo of the prototype crane is a MUCH larger, and thus a higher capacity, crane than the photo of your Lionel model. Note the difference in the trucks alone.

Lionel made an American Flyer crane that had multiple hooks.  I do not have the box  anymore so I hope this helps. Try crane #49037 about year 2005.    LOCOMOTION

The Southern Crane is smaller than the Lionel with two hooks.  Lionel has the hole in the boom. Interesting.

 

 

The are available on ebay and are the larger, six axle cranes.  Thanks for the tip.

Another option is to look for that hook part from the more recent TMCC crane Lionel offered. It has the small yellow hook.

As noted, Lionel also made these traditional-sized crane cars with six wheel trucks. I don't think any of these traditional cranes ever came with two hooks. The Lionel scale-sized remote controlled crane cars have two hooks. 

 

American Flyer crane parts are available. They would probably work for what you want to do.
