A question for 0 scale 2 rail Big Boy operators:
There is an crunch spot on level 4 of my RR which only provides a 1/4" clearance for an Allegheny H-8 smoke box and cab roof from an adjacent level 5 sub-roadbed. I will be cutting to relieve additional clearance to accommodate that series for more of a margin.
The situation is not normal or desirable but will be inside of a mountain and I would never want to compromise by reducing level 4's curvature. The level 5 road bed can not be moved outboard. It is tight against a masonry wall. Level 5 was a nostalgic squeezed in add on late in construction.
The question: knowing the H-8's clearance, how would that compare to a Big Boy's required clearance on the outside edge of a 72" radius curve?
From the outside rail's edge to a plumb line from the adjacent level 5 sub roadbed is 1 1/2". The height of the level 5 sub-roadbed at that spot runs from 2 7/16" to 3 9/16".
I would need to address this before closing in the scenery.
Thank you for your input. tt
