A friend has a 2-6-4 engine he said he got around 62'. Can it be run with pellet depleted without
burning the unit? I know with fluid units you will fry em' with no smoke. It has no ON/OFF switch, just

Post war engines from the 50’s and 60’s do not require the pellets to run. It will not damage the engine or the smoke unit if there is no pellet. These things are like little tiny toasters. It doesn’t care if there is toast in it or not.
Had one when I was a kid. Ran for hours without a pellet until I got more.

You can add a few drops of smoke fluid if you have no pellets.
Yes smoke fluid will work just fine. And you DO NOT have to change out the heater element.
