Smoke unit fix for MTH Veranda Tubine with Proto 3

Has anyone received the "fix" for the front smoke unit on the MTH Veranda Turbine with Protosounds 3? How difficult is the installation and does it work? The original Proto 1 version poured smoke out of the grid or grate like area which is located just behind the current "hole" for the front smoke unit.
