11 a.m. Friday morning at VMT. Is the J getting yanked out and restored!?!?!?!
Replies sorted oldest to newest
If I could have a buck for every time the "611 is getting restored or is NS going to restore 611" posts show up, I could be a millionaire.
Whatever is going on, if anything, I'd bet it has to do with the VMT's big fundraising efforts that have been well discussed here and on other forums in the past two weeks or so.
The news is about that wonderful TV show "Extreme Trains." IT'S COMING BACK!!! Oh baby!
If you believe that, I've got some ocean-front property in Kansas I'm trying to sell.
I heard that EXTREME TRAINS will feature a co-host who goes ballistic when someone points to an MU consist and shouts, " L****p!" or directs the cameraman to a pilot and says, "There's a cowc*****r!"
EXTREME TRAINS - a refined, elegant production - MASTERPIECE THEATRE for railfans
Any truth to a rumor that one segment will feature a guy named "Share" (sp?) at the throttle of 765 trying to demonstrate her "Lima gait" on a rickety siding? Oh, the THRILL of it!
P.S.: I hope that segment will be taped AFTER her excursions around Horseshoe Curve. Just playin' it safe . . .
A "...MASTERPIECE THEATRE for railfans..."? How do you possibly figure that?
Most of the "facts" that show presented about railroading were just plain WRONG!
Or are you just pulling my leg?
I have it on good authority a complete NYC Hudson was discovered somewhere in Indiana in a building that was abandoned in the late 40's.
It will be shown publicly as soon as some legal ends are tied up as to ownership and the like. This has been kept very quiet for this past year and a half. This could be the greatest find ever for railroad buffs.
I cannot offer any other comments on this find so please do not ask.
I thought Webster was having a ceremony there, adding the phrase "Lash-up" to the dictionary!

Not only your leg, but also your preferred terminology and your locomotive, too.
Just good Forum fun . . .
And I thought that NYCS Hudson was hiding in a barn in Michigan. And speaking of that, wonder what happened to the pair of NYCS sharks that actually were hiding in a barn in Michigan???
The Sharks are still stored in an indoor facility on the Escanaba & Lake Superior.

No. I'll bet it has something to do with the new efforts at VMT for fund raising, maybe like what is going on in Fort Wayne, IN for the Fort Wayne RR Historical Society and the proposed new "home" for 765.
;-)
;-)
I could understand the T1, but a tunnel,,,,,,in Florida??????
With the mini craze that has been created by this 'announcement', it seems that the real BIG NEWS just came out of Canada at one of Hunter Harrison's "town hall meetings"... in which CP's new CEO essentially cast the death knell for the 2816,
" "I hate steam engines". The audience chuckled when he said that. "They are expensive to run; the liability is too high and they serve no useful purpose" .

Not surprising given his slash and burn reputation to boost profits. He strikes me as an old school Vanderbilt or Gould type, ready with a direct answer and its his way or the highway and not given to fits of concern over community relations, history or nostalgia. Good for stockholders, doom for mainline steam.
Or maybe he resembles another cheery fellow..that ever so happy go lucky JP Morgan. **** the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
Maybe they are annoucing a joint venture between Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern where they will be restoring and then quadruple heading 611, 1218, A Bigboy and a turbine! LOL!
No!
In order to increase interest in steam preservation NS is going to re-lay the 4th set of track over Horseshoe Curve and extend it all the way to Indiana to provide 765 with ready access to mainline running anytime Rich and company feel the urge.
I am sure it has to do with fund raising.
I didn't realize that it was April 1st already!
I mean.... gotta love some media speculation Thus, why I started the thread...
NS will be dragging the 4014 out of Pomona...

... better yet! CSX is dragging the Mohawk out of South Bend.
Years ago, I dreamed that I had been bequeathed a large building in remote Southwest Virginia, and upon inspection, I found N&W and Seaboard 2-6-6-4s (not the 1218), a Southern Ts-1 4-8-2, and an N&W class J 4-8-4 (not the 611).
The next day I woke up with a terrible hangover.
Go figure , , ,

Might be time to dust off the rumor I heard a few years ago that CSX mechanical forces were seen at the B&O Museum during regular business hours with museum officials going over the 1604 and 490 for possible further evaluation for excursion/PR/Offical service...4/1 isn't very far away!
..........I'll admit, I did fall for that one! I was young and dumb then!
I heard that a B&O EM-1, a PRR 2-10-4, and a Henry Dreyfuss 20th Century Limited were stashed in a coal mine in Pennsylvania.

It's a TV show made by Foamers for Foamers!
<that's word I learned from you>
Facts are not important, just good drama makes for good TV
HAHAHAHA

I also heard that they were LASHED together in that coal mine!

Maybe the VMT aquired the 2156....yeah I didn't think so.

Are we getting our chain yanked gain!?!?!?!
They're going to renumber the 611 to 746, paint her pink and make up a new "girls train."
