Yesterday and today, March 1 and 2, the National Capital Trackers are at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, DC. I did not realize that much of the health care is provided by active duty military, on rotation or assignment.  Here a young soldier learns about TMCC. The LCCA Veterans Commemorative boxcar carries the marker.

B&O Bill,

Thank you sir for taking the NCT to visit and make our retired Military people enjoy a nice time.  Bob our Military Retirement Home in DC is just one of the places our active duty Medics and Corps men, along with other active duty personnel, work on a daily basis.   The young female soldier operating the Trains is probably in the Reserve on active duty, and works at the DC Military Retirement Home.

Today was even better. The Daughters of the American Revolution volunteers were there and set up punch and goodies for the residents...and the Trackers!  I talked to an active duty officer and discovered that all types of providers: Drs., nurses, pharmacists, etc. come to the retirement home from Walter Reed/Bethesda to provide care.  I also found out that the young female soldier operating the trains is a resident physician at Bethesda, and comes to the AFRH on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The last part of the day was perhaps the most moving. At about 2 PM, the residents from the dementia unit came to visit. You should have seen them "come alive" with pleasure at seeing the trains, and talking about the ones they had when they were children. More than one of the AFRH staffers had tears in their eyes.

Here's a few of the trains today, and you can see the punch bowl in the background.

Thank you all for the kind words. I do know that every modular club here on OGR would have done the same thing, if the opportunity arose. We were very fortunate to have the chance to "pay back" those who have served us so well.

I also got a nice surprise from Katrina, of DAR. She sent me a link to her many fine photos, with permission to share liberally. If you want to see more of the event, including lots of the veterans as well as trains, her link is here.

Password, case sensitive, is Punch.
