I've got 2 different Proto 3 engines from different people they have brought to me that are Proto 3.0 and they both won't come out of neutral in conventional but works fine in DCS mode.
GE Evolution Premier and a RK Imperial Northern 4-8-4.
I've tried the Feature & Factory reset to no avail.
Z1000 as the power source.
Any other hints?

Wow. I'm gonna follow this thread. I thought the engines look for the watchdog signal, if it isn't present, then they work in conventional mode. Could they be faulty in some way? Wonder what Barry's insight will be... Eagerly awaiting more info
No TIU or starter set DCS present when testing them in conventional. Both of the customers don't even have DCS.
Engines power up, and the horn/bell buttons work but if you do the direction button or cycle power they just sit there.

Hmm... Not being technical in this area, I guess I'd call MTH.
From my PS3 GP20 user manual. Worth a try I guess.
Lower the track voltage then raise it again.
The engine should start moving. If you apply
greater than 9VDC quickly the engine will just
sit there. Lowering it below 9VDC then raising
it will get the engine moving.

Yes voltages persist, even for about 5 seconds after power removal. I've waited 30 seconds before trying to get it out of neutral.
My own Proto 3 engine works fine doing the exact same sequence.
Yes I've tried both varying the voltage to zero and the direction button.

The 1 Whistle 3 Bells reset worked and they both now run.....
I forgot about that, keep thinking a DCS Feature/Reset would do it and it doesn't as Dave H. mentioned late last year.

Jim, There also is the conventional reset 1W and 5Bs. Make sure you hear the confirming 2 whistle toots. Otherwise the reset wasn't successful. I have successfully reset plenty of PS-2 and PS-3 engines this way. Glad you got it. G
I know " factory" command reset will unlock a conventional engine that is locked in a directional state, At least for proto-2 engines..Done and tested it many times. A feature reset nope!
I did read Dave's post, looks like proto-3 are different animals .
Is this a good thing, I don't think so.
