They never went away in Canada.
I bought a few boxes of Twinkies before they shut down, relized they were not as great as I remember them.
I will look forward to Ding Dongs again
It's great, but will the Twinkies have that banana flavor, reminiscent of the fifties? Most folks have never known that flavor of Twinkie. I still remember the smell of my old lunch box, Twinkies, an apple, and a bologna sandwich. Every day, at school, for many years.
Ahhhh, if they could only return. (both the old days, my youth, and those wonderful foods, all laid-in by my mom as she smoked Winstons)
Outstanding news. Those of us with bomb shelters want to have snacks that we know will never spoil. That plus sufficient gold, ammo, and canned goods and we're good to go. Plus an additional generator for a small train set.
There was a children's show on TV called Rooty Kazooty in the early 50's.
I was one of the first kids to visit the show.
We each got a mini loaf of Wonder Bread.
It was gone by the time mom picked me up.
Scrappy
was that you in the second row?
Scrapiron & Johns;
I only remember the name, not the show. I think we only got our first TV in 54, and I probably only saw a couple of shows. But, who would ever forget the name?
ah the old days.. captin kangaroo, rex trailer , and if you are from manchester,n.h. ares never forget uncle gus, this has nothing to do with trains but it goes with the theme.... sort of....
Well, Captain Kangaroo [Bob Keeshan] ran a small Lionel display layout now and then. I vividly remember a 736 heading a freight train barrelling down a curve supported by a Trestle Set. It flew off and crashed on the layout. "OH," exclaimed the Captain, "we have a wreck!"
Hopefully Zingers will eventually follow! (With a boxcar to keep my post train related!)
Interesting linked story, btw - it filled me in on a few cloudy details. I had seen those Bluebird clones in my local market a while back and wondered what was up.
I know the Philly local brand TastyKakes had called their clone Dreamies also (not sure if there is a connection between TastyKakes and Mrs. Freshley, or maybe an error in the story, or just both companies picked the same name and neither has sued the other yet.

And theyproduct tasts the same too!
Personally I'm glad to hear some of those workers are going back to work.
That is the only thing which will help the economy long run.
And to keep my post Train Related, Did all of you see how many offerings in the Lionel Catalog are Made in the USA ?
This catalog is gonna cost me money. Army train cars and Presidential cars, perhaps more.
I have 20 cases of frozen Twinkies not dated. I think there are 10 boxes of 10 in a case. They are for vending to companies to date themselves as they put in the machines.
I was going to hold them and put in my machines as a treat to my customers. I guess I better get them out there. I don't like them myself.
Twinkies and Lionel trains 2 classic icons, throw in some Nestles Quick and you've got a Nostalgia Trifecta!
