Lionel, MTH, Sunset/3rd Rail and Williams made Daylight cars. The 3rd Rail cars are scale and super nice. I have Lionel's GS-2, an MTH set of cars, and the 3rd Rail set. I rode the original a few times in the 1950s, spectacular trips, then took the New Orleans World's Fair Special from L.A. to San Francisco in 1984. Great memories.

This is a common case of railpoxis dualcoastalitis (rail obsession with roads on both coasts) or railpoxis regionitis (rail obsession for roads outside one's region.) I suffer a severe case of the latter, having some strange, hard-core, foaming-at-the-mouth obsession with Chicago & Northwestern, even though I've never set foot in CNW territory.

Unfortunately, slapping you around a bit will only temporarily stop the symptoms. It should subside if you acquire a Daylight passenger train. Just to be safe, you may want to get both the steam and diesel prescriptions. Be advised, though, that it may mutate into the regionitis version and you could end up obsessed with SP in general, which gets expensive.

Just sign me G Ima Quack, MD.

My LHS currently has a pretty good deal. A customer who purchased the Lionel Legacy GS-2 and four streamlined cars, has encountered difficult times, and has returned it all to the shop on consignment. The engine is TRO, and the dealer said the cars looked unopened. Price for the engine and cars is $1200. The cars are not on display, but the engine looks like new.

You are NOT a quack. In fact, you are my NEW doctor!

I find the best way to give up an obsession is to do so completely and cold-turkey.  If you want my help, I'll be happy to come over, smack you around and then have you help me load all your stuff into my trailer.

Seriously...  If you have the cash, get what you want and enjoy it.

I have a passion for famous steam era passenger trains, and it's amusing to me how many of these gorgeous trains served the New York Metro Area in my world. I can see the Daylight arriving at Sunnyside Yard in the near future. What the heck, there's a siding in Sunnyside alongside the Southern Crescent that's available for the Daylight.
