You need strips that are one and one half inches wide and 1/8 inch thick?  I have seen

hardwood strips, as well as "bass wood"  in the big box homestores.. HD/Lowes/Menards,  but not that size.   I never could find out what "bass wood" is, kinda like "mystery meat" in your school lunch room.  I think it is probably not a "hardwood", though, and have wondered about its strength for big load bearing like

highballing a Triplex across trestles made of it.  Those home stores custom cut wood... check their stocks and then ask a sales person.

Basswood is one of those like Poplar, it's a soft wood that get's hard as it ages.

If you have access to a table saw & can mill your own wood, look for some Hardwood/ Oak Pallets or Packing Crates and and take them apart for the wood.

If you get really lucky you can find them made of Mahogany.

Or just cheat and see if your nearest big box store has an open box of wood parquet flooring and buy a few pieces of that.
