Speeding Engine/No Sound

My steam engine is 4-8-4 GS-4 w/ Proto-Sound 2 and Digital Command system. The problem is at times it runs without sound and picks up speed at certain points on the track. Is this an engine problem or track connectivity issue? I have checked all the track and they appear to be connected properly

David,

It sounds as if there may be a problem with the tether being loosely connected, or defective in some other way, particularly if the problem occurs on curves when the tether is stretched one way or another.
