Under the Christmas tree, I've put a simple loop for a steam engine to run in conventional mode.  I am using a simple power source, a 1037 40 Watt AC Control System with power pack.  Behind the engine, I'm using an old (early '90's) tender with RailSounds.  The engine sounds work fine and the whistle is easily activated with the whistle button on the controller.  I did not hook up the sound activation device (10-5906-001).  Today, some of my grandchildren were here & were operating the train.  The 2 year old did something when she was pushing the buttons & got the bell to sound.  I asked her what she did & of course, she said she didn't know as "it just started."

I have not been able to replicate what she was able to do.  Any thoughts anyone?

This at times a random thing that happens with all transformers, at least in my experience, with only whistle controllers, such as the ZW and KW. It's best not to question really, and just make the best out of the situation when it happens. It really doesn't seem to result in anything serious done to the train. It might have to do with certain voltage levels.

Thanks for your reply.  I think that "random" has to be the answer as I've tried to get the bell to ring at different voltages, have held the whistle button down long & short & nothing gets the bell to sound.  I figured if a 2 year old could do it, so could I but I've had no luck.  Thanks again & Merry Christmas!
