Interesting comment that another train hit the last carriage of a train pulled by this locomotive and that resulted in a ban on steam excursions. Some how steam was to blame for the accident? Guess I don't have all the facts so it would be wrong to jump to a conclusion but ...
Some of the info - the train with 3801 stalled on a grade, about 50 meters after clearing a tunnel; sand applied may have interfered with signaling (insulating train from rails), giving following train a false green.
