Step 3: https://ogrforum.com/...wer-level-track-work

Now that the lower level track work and major wiring is in place and the electrical stuff and spacings have been tested, work can begin on the rear plateau.  The rear plateau will be 4' x 10' and indented from the back wall by 1' (to allow for me to get behind it in the event of a derailment).

This gives you a visual of what supports the Homasote.  the bottom of the horizontal wood structure is 6 1/2" above lower level.

step 5a - rear plateau

step 5b - rear plateau

trackwork on the rear plateau is complete.  the extended tracks on the far left (hard to see here) and the one on the right will connect to the front plateau which will be built later.

step 5c - rear plateau with track

This one clearly shows the left track extension.  It will lead to an MTH arch bridge and on to the front plateau from there.

step 5d - rear plateau with track

This, as hard as it is to notice height differences, shows the area behind the rear plateau where I can walk if need be.

step 5e - rear plateau space to walk

Determining what size curves I need to connect this side of the rear plateau to the front one (obviously that little wood structure won't be the size of the front plateau.

step 5f - which curves to use to connect plateaus

I will say this the excitement to see it all running takes much longer I'll be listless like a little kid waiting on Santa Claus to arrive on Christmas eve!!

do you ever make a video of the layout? I'd like to see it all in action you are the Montgomery ward/sears toy train layout stores in real life.

thank you for always sharing this with us all each year.  I hope this stays up longer than after Christmas day as this is a lot of work for a party of one or so I assume you are the only one putting this together?

seems like you mentioned grandchildren any of them able to help you yet?

as a child would say... is it done yet is it done yet ohhhhhh I can hardly wait

StPaul:

Yes, I have videos but since I change it each year each video is different.  I haven't yet taken one for this year.  The videos were much more "interesting" before I sold my collection - I could run 9 trains!

I have visitors every year.  When I no longer have any scheduled, usually early to mid-January, that's when I take it down.

I have 4 grandkids but none live close, sad to say.

thanks for your comments!
