Or some poor schmuck just got hosed in a divorce settlement...
Curt
MPC & POSTWAR cars don't sell anymore, not to worry. She wont sell them anyway.
I cant even get 12 bucks a car on ebay. Nobody wants them.
Friend of ours went on a getaway weekend. While he was gone a U-haul truck was parked backed up to his garage. Neighbors didn't think anything about it. When he came home, every single train in his home was gone. The thieves even took the time to box it all up in the boxes. Never saw them again in the Wash/Ore area. Insurance didn't cover it. He thinks it was one of the many guests he had over the last year. One of them was a bad guy in disguise. We now, since Jim's misfortune, no longer share ours with anyone we've not known for decades.
Go ahead, steal my trains. Lionel won’t support em and I have to give em away to sell em. It’ll save me the trouble
I had a 53' tractor trailer load of these stolen from my house. I didn't report it though. The value wouldn't meet my deductable.
Very sad to hear about tose that suffered that loss. I agree that a U-Haul full of trains looks like a divorce or revenge on cheating boyfriend scenario. During my mothers last few years I took her into our home here because she could not live alone. With all of the health care aids, nurses, social workers, this that and the other people a few things grew legs and walked away, some of the old standard gauge trains on the living room shelves not withstanding.

Twenty four pallets on the floor, 24 pallets on the second level. Six cartons per layer, three layers per pallet. Six cars per carton. 48 x 18 x 6 = 5184 cars and locomotives. That's a lot,. must have had a rather large layout. At only ten dollars per unit, your policy must have a $55,000 deductible. May as well be self insured. John

Anymore you need security systems, Rottweilers , just to be safe ,thank god i have both LoL
Gentlemen,
Just a short time ago a lady in Florida had her home under security surveillance, and was monitoring her home security from her phone, while she was out shopping. Her home security notified her that her home had been broken into, security cameras had the Purp on film. She notified the local Police, got to her home before the police arrived, confronted the house breaker coming out of her back door. The purp tried to assault her, she shot him dead.
The relatives of the house breaker were on the news actually saying she should not have had a gun, to shoot the Purp. They actually said you have to understand this is the hood, just how do you expect him to get the nice clothes he needs to go to school.
This is the kind of mentality society is breeding today, especially in the inner city. This home owner definitely needs a Big Weimar Dog. A well trained 70 -100 Lb Weimar dog, eliminates all house breaking.
Sorry to hear about some of your misfortunes, add a big dog to your home. Here in our Pa mountains breaking into somebody's home, will get you carried by 6 most times.
Stealing a mans Trains is like stealing his guns, a definite no no.
Rock Stars,
You might want to report the crime, once this happens the Purps usually come back again because they got away with the crime, and nothing was done about it.
PCRR/Dave
Could be an unwanted inheritance. Lots of Grandpa's and Daddy's trains are showing up on the free venues with the heirs expecting to unload in single transactions.
What, me worry?
Kerrigan-- That's beyond sad! One that it happened, and even worse, that it was likely someone that they knew and/or trusted!
Dave K--Did you reach out to the seller and see what they are offering to see if the items are from Kerrigan's friend?
Some years back a friend was having issues with his wife & decided to separate. After a time they talked, worked things out & he moved back. He told me that during one of their conversations she stated, "you took your trains!" As he had collected quite a few sets I suggested he might want to store everything in a self storage for a while.

Sounds like an inside job, someone new he would not be home for a good period of time.
I agree, you should get the security system that will notify you so you can get home add more holes in the #$%^ dude or dudette that god did not give them.
I may or may not have a air conditioned storage unit. What me worry?

No i did not
I know from what i saw in the back of the u haul ig looked like a bunch of MPC
My train building and House are alarmed and we live on a private road so unfamiliar Cars or Trucks are noticed by our neighbors if they are out and about.

I don't have any tolerance for a thief ... period! If someone makes a poor life choice, and decides to steal what I worked hard to acquire, they best hope I don't catch them in the act of being uninvited in my home or on my place, it won't end nice.
Obviously those here know I have toy trains, other than family, I don't let but a select few know that I even have toy trains, only those I trust and are in the hobby know that I have them.

Post a link of the sale.
PCRR/Dave I love your approach and I have the same one here in Central PA. It is sad that so many of us me included want to share our hobby but don't due to the reasons in this thread. My wife constantly is on my case not to tell folks about my trains even some of the kids in the area who would love to see them and possibly want to get into the hobby. Our last house was broken into three times and lucky for us PASP response was very good nobody was caught as the alarm scared them but that may not always be the case.
I think I know who you are talking about. She has a lot of train cars for sale on Face Book. I am wondering where she is getting all those trains. Her initials are H M. Other than that I do not know her. I won't post her name as I don't think that would be allowed here. She may be legit but I don't know for sure.
