KEY MODEL IMPORTS

SANTA FE E1 A-B SET

The original Knickerbocker

It makes me very happy to share this photo review with you guys. The prototype is a historic and beloved engine that Key has done great justice to. I can only praise and thank Gary Schrader for his research, in every aspect this model is soul satisfying. Also, I just want to say that seeing this engine in person makes me a proud O scaler, put this thing next to The Coach Yard's or BLI's  and O scale suddenly looks like heaven. I hope that you feel the same way, something tells me Cronkhite would. Enjoy the pictures!

Great pictures, but a couple of paint questions.  And, please forgive me if my questions just "show off" my lack of knowledge about SF prototype.

1.  Engineer's ladder (or is it fireman's or both) turns from red to silver when it hits silver stripe, but handles for same ladder stay red all the way to connection in silver?

2  Ladders in middle stay completely silver instead of changing to red when they enter red stripe area?

Just curious.

No prob bud, as long as we are in this hobby we'll always be learning.

These units went through several changes in their lifetime. This is not even the initial pilot! So modeling them is tricky. Most pictures show the front handles as stainless steel, but you also find them in red. The grills also changed, there are vertical and chicken wire, it's all relative. Pilot details, number boards etc...

Key managed to offer an amazing array of significant timeframes for the Santa Fe early E units, from this one all the way to the 50's. Amazing really.
