Did some scenicing in the engine servicing area:

I made a few elevated sections for some visual interest, and because the area on Long Island that I’m modeling is known for hills and small grades, but not mountains. I also painted and installed the retaining wall from the upper industrial area down to the lower street.

Wow! Now that is one unique"bad ***" structure! How tall is it to top of  roofline and then to the top of the water tank (as a model?)

Great scenes Mel! Jackiejr, excellent work on the scenes, and that building! Thanks Dave, I got them from Terry Christopher at Custom Signals in upstate New York.

Nice job everyone! I didn't get my Union RR caboose finished this week but I did make some progress. I'm waiting on brake wheels, end platform safety chain, and decals to finish the job.

I had to fill in all the windows and create new ones to match the prototype. They're not perfect by I'm okay with them. All the rivets had to be sanded off and  in the process most of the cast-on nbw details were lost, so those were replaced with new ones from Grandt Line. A track for a sunshade was scratch built on each bay as well as tracks for the screens of whatever it was that slid in them. I also had to change the caboose sill, extend the roof and scratch build new end railings.

Here are a few pics showing the alterations I made to the caboose body and after a coat of primer. Now comes the really boring part of filling and wet sanding all the spots I thought were smooth. Good thing I don't work in a body shop!

Just added some ground cover in the area in front of the recently installed retaining wall, and in the area behind the grade.

I thought so but I haven't been able to reach him. 

Alan, with the view from your "workshop annex" I don't think you're ever going to build in the workshop again.  That's either a very big tank farm or individual tanks for different offices or distributors.

Steamfan,  I like the gradual changes in topography you've been creating on your layout.

The tanks will be mounted on wood bases and a pen set will be added to the base. They are given out as a promotional item. Building them is ideal when I go down to the condominium.

Had some fun running post war.  This was my second engine I ever bought (around 1995-ish).

    I worked on trying to get the lift-out section into shape for the sawmill, log pond area. I don't think anything is more messy that pink foam bits everywhere.  Here is a overall shot of the lift-out it's around a little over 2ft. wide and about 5ft. long. Because of the way the tracks run around this area, I couldn't go deep with the pond. I plan on going really dark with the pond, a brown and black for most of the area and a little lighter on the perimeter. Since these had tons of floating tree debris in there it will look good, I think.

I have a B.T.S. log dump kit, but I wound up cheating a bit and scratch building the dump section because I can't raise my track high enough to accommodate the trestle bents for underneath it, so I will fake the bents beneath the log dump and on top will be covered in decking . With all the debris floating around it won't even be seen.  Looking forward to getting the pond and banks painted and sinking the trestle and mill into foam and start on water. I have a bunch of 1/2 logs that will be sprinkled around pond and I may have a few fresh logs in water by log dump.

Awesome two weeks in a row!  Let me know if you need decals.  I don't have red letters and numbers but I have the Independence logos.

It looks like you used masking tape and homasote? Did you simply spread the ground foam over this or did you do something else first?

What is the material for the retaining walls and how did you paint. They look fantastic.

Thanks Dave! I ordered some decals from CMR Products. This is the same company that made the Bessemer decals I had so much trouble with on that yellow f unit. I had a conversation with them at the train show in Salem, Ohio last April and described the problems I had. They gave me some tips on using their decals and I told them that I would try it their way on the next project I did. We'll see how it goes.
