My son loves the Chessie System, so I recently picked up a Sunset/3rd Rail GP9. My layout is set in 1955 and runs predominantly steam so we fudged it a little for this…but hey, he’s happy! It’s a beautiful locomotive. This is the 2-rail version.

Thank you so much! Yes, both my boys (10 & 5) love trains. They run them on my layout and we’ve also got a 4x8 3-rail layout under mine that’s their’s.

Thank you, Jim. It’s actually expanding as we speak. As currently configured it’s 46’x20’ but is growing to 46’x30’. I’m laying track today.

Thank you, Jim! I started building this layout in April of 2022. It's been a lot of fun.
I like that Chessie GP9 too. Sunset/3rd Rail did a fantastic job with those. The B&O GP7 at the end of the video is also a Sunset/3rd Rail. I'm a steam guy- always will be (the layout is actually set in 1955), but I grew up with the Chessie System so I do have a soft spot for it, even though it killed my beloved Western Maryland.
And here's the messy side of things....what I'm working on as we speak...laying the outer mainline tracks on the new section.
