Hi Folks,

I remember saying "Goodbye" to my team here in Korea 3 years ago, in December of 2019. "See you in February" were my last words.

Nearly 3 years later I was able to return.  I have been meeting with our production team who mostly live in Korea. We all work together to keep our vendors and factories busy in Korea and China.

The SD40-2 design is almost complete. These are going to be the coup de grace of Diesels we have ever made. If you don't have a reservation now, look to see if you want one before we close reservations. (January).  Please reserve HERE.

We are starting the GP7 and GP9 run #2 in November. We have sent all reserving customers their preliminary invoices for these to make sure we have accurate orders. If you want to get on board with this second run, please act quickly as we are closing reservations in days, when we order the parts for production. Click HERE to go to the GP79 information Page.

The 1948 20th Century cars and Milwaukee Road EP3s are finishing this November, arriving in January. The next cars to go into production are the "Chessie Cars" Again, reserve now or forever hold your peace. I had the Chessie car info on our 3rdrail.com web site, but have since moved them to the Golden Gate Depot web site for clarity. They are a GGD product. You can click HERE to see the information page for the Chessie cars.

We don't have much in stock to sell, but we do have Battleship Gondolas, so please order yours before they are gone. We don't often rerun models, so this is your chance to own one of the most unique gondolas ever produced. You can buy your Battleship Gondolas Here.

We are working on the design of the "Eagle" cars now. More than 1/2 of these cars were ACF "American Car Foundry" cars, which have riveted sides. Aluminum cars are made by extruding AL through a tool making the sides smooth. Then cutting out the windows and space for the door castings. They generally don't accommodate rivets, only a smooth surface on the sides. We have developed a technique to apply rivets onto the AL so that when the cars are painted, they will have raised rivet patterns on the surface. The "Eagle" cars will be outstanding scale models for sure. These will be produced in 2023. You still have time to reserve your T&P or Mopac "Eagles". You can see the "Eagle" car information page HERE.

See the test picture of riveted Aluminum body here:

We have a lot of models to work on in the coming months and years, and we hope all of you that are interested can hang in there with us while we work through them and get them produced.

Please come to our web site to see the products and reserve what you will want. And please remember, we produce to your orders, and in some cases it's very difficult to sell unique models, in unique road names to other customers if you drop your orders after production begins. We don't ask for deposits, but ask for firm orders from our customers.

Enjoy Your Hobby,

Scott Mann / Sunset Models / 3rd Rail / Golden Gate Depot / Electric Railroad - Korea

Need a rerun of E7, E8, or PAs.  Hopefully delivered before end of 2024 to pull my Eagle cars.....

OH YES !!!! A Rerun of any of these would be Awesome !!! The 8 might be the most likely as there has been only one run - if my memory is correct. The 7 would require a new mold as no other road had portholes. I’d prefer the 7 - but that’s just because I already have the 8 models and PA. AND I’d lobby for the models to also be offered in Jenks blue. Why not. Same model with just a different paint job.

Here’s what we’re talking about.
PA left, then MP E8,  T&P E8, E6 A run 1. All 3rd Rail.

Hi Mr. Massa,

Yes, we are watching the reservations build for the Broadway Ltd., Superliners, Genesis and Chargers. Once we reach critical mass we can pull the trigger on these and many others projects announced. It's all possible because of you. We can't afford to make models without your orders. When we get to the right levels of orders we focus on making the best models possible.

Ya'all come back now, hear!

I will be at York on Friday the 21st, wandering the Orange hall on Friday with my East Coast Rep. Bob Heil. If you see us, stop us and say HI! Royz Trains is passing out our latest newsletters. Make sure to stop by his booth, row DD, I think. He always has interesting things to sell and does fantastic upgrades and repairs of our older models.

It would be nice if the Slumber Coach run 2 could get tacked onto the Chessie run. I imagine the SC rerun could be rather modest and may never get very large. I bet the Chessie is not a Giant run either. Running these two together seems like an efficient way “smooth out” the Q a bit. For sure just a simplistic idea / opinion. 🤔🤔

E5s and E6s are finishing in November and arriving in January. Anyone with reservations should have received the same information in an email. As for road specific numbers and names, please email me for that information.

I will be at York on Friday from 9 to noon in the Orange Hall. No table, just walking around this time. Royz Trains will have some brochures and information on ERR and upgrading. He probably will know where I am on Friday.

H-10 deal has been made. Price will be announced shortly. We have to ink a contract before we can say for sure. But I think it's a good deal, considering the costs of materials and labor today. Look for an announcement in late October.

I understand we live in a different world than we did pre covid when the H10 Mikes was put up for reservations.  I don't mean to be a downer but if the price is much high than what was announced way back when, sorry to say I may be out on this one.  My financial picture has changed much since then.  I'm sure lots of us are in the same boat.   I'll hold judgement until Scott has a firm price.

Totally feel your pain Gary, I'm in the same boat, the catastrophic inflation has decimated my disposable income and train budget

There is a price posted on the reservation page.  Is this the old price ?

The old price was 1700 and change.  The new price is $2699.95  which puts this engine out of reach for me.

Was thinking it was less than 2K originally 🤔🫢.  That’s a sizable jump😖. I wonder if it’s priced for a small total run of 50.  Web say 50 3rail 50 2rail.  If I Really wanted, I’d prioritize my collection to see what I could sell off to help finance this model. Just sayin……
All the prices are are getting Tough to manage. With 3rd Rail diesels, I usually want more than one so I have to commit to spread out payments to manage. If you miss a run, you may not see another run opportunity for a long time. Sometimes you can get lucky in the secondary market. I did once with a RI TA set.
Looks like ALL steam Really is Going into the Very Expensive Territory!!! 😳😵‍💫😖

The inflation issue is a double whammy.      First the price is inflated here because of our conditions which are now rampant inflation like what I remember from early 1980s.      The other issue is that even if there is inflation in other countries, it will not be at the same rate.    Inflation means the dollars that we spend overseas are worth less in exchange for local currency now than they were.    Therefore the overseas mfgs need more dollars to get the same equivalant yen or whatever currency they use.   They still have to cover their costs in their economy.
