Just wanted to share the latest brass model I finished painting and weathering. This is the original sunset version and what a great job they did on this model. Hopefully this inspires someone to get in the shop and build or paint... if anyone is looking for custom painting and/or weathering.. feel free to contact me.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

Joe, I did this mostly with paint and just a hint of powders. It is hard to get everything to blend and not have spray patterns, just takes time. I did put the engine on the worlds favorite online auction site, so you could own it if you wanted a display piece. I have customers around the country and even 2 in Japan I do weathering for, so if you find that model you really like, I could always make it look like this. Nothing to be ashamed of with the O42, you’re doing better than alot of people because you are actually running your models. Keep up the good work and enjoying the hobby and show whomever you can just how fun it can be large or small. Take care.

Outstanding!  I see so many steam engine weathering jobs with vertical streaks—often times airbrushed either white/light gray or brown/rust colored—running down the sides of the locomotives...and something just looks wrong with them.  Maybe because the streaks are often overdone or far too pronounced to look realistic...at least IMO anyway.

I’m very comfortable now weathering diesels, but I still haven’t attempted to do a steam engine yet—probably due to fear I won’t achieve the prototypical look that you did here!  I’d love to learn even more details about your process than you shared above...but I also understand if you are keeping your method somewhat of a secret based on the unique quality of your work!

P.S.  I appreciate and love your line of detail parts...please keep them coming!
