Hey folks welcome to another edition of Switcher Saturday! In this weekly thread we celebrate the versatile locomotives known as Switchers. Whether rearranging the yard, spotting cars as the local, or hustling around the docks, these are the machines that move that last mile and put the loads where they need to be. This thread is always open to switchers of all scales and gauges.
Switchers engine enjoy a reputation of being able to do all jobs as assigned. In this case, we have a diesel shunter on snow duty. The difference is its brought to you via tweet by the railroad ministry of India.

Now as dependable as they normally are, everything needs serviced sooner or later. So how do you change a gearbox on a Republic Locomotive unit? Well, given the design of these machines, the first thing you do is simply take off the top! I stumbled across this scene early in the week.
I stumbled across the scene above early in the week. While having an overhead crane is essential, the track pit is not needed. When you lift off the top the lower portion reminds me of a big roller skate.
