Hello switcher fans! Welcome to Switcher Saturday 8/12/23 edition! I'm pinch hitting for Bob, who asked me to sit in the engineers seat and notch out the throttle to get us rolling this week. He should be back next week. And while I'm at it ... Lets give it up for Bob who's been doing a terrific job these last couple weeks as he's been filling in for JHZ563!!! BRAVO Bob!!!

Last weekend I was at the State University of New York Fredonia working on recording project. After finishing up, my dog Barney and I drove to Hamburg NY for a look see at the Western NY Railroad Historical Society's collection of locomotives and rolling stock. They had a beautifully refurbished ALCO HH660. Since there was no one around for me to ask questions, I assume this engine pulls tourist trains, as some passenger coaches were set out nearby. I would have loved to have seen that HH660 in action! The builders plate had a March 1940 date on it. It was bought new by the Buffalo Creek Railroad. HH stands for high hood and 660 is for 660 horsepower. According to Wickapedia Otto Kuhler designed the car body. The early versions of HH660 had squared off edges and Kuhler rounded out those edges. There was also a Pennsy 2-10 -0 decapod on the property and a trio of other ALCO switchers, all of which needed a lot of work cosmetically and I'm sure mechanically too. Below are some pics. I'm really looking forward to see what all of you post this weekend! I learn so much from all of you! May you all have a terrific weekend!!
