...As good a forum to advise this through as any, I suppose.

Just received (LHS) two full boxes (24 bottles) of Tenax 7r plastic weld solvent.  Apparently the new ownership (?) knows a good thing when they have it.  Ours came from Walthers, but other distributors will have it, too.

Sidebar....YOU SEE, GUYS/GALS...THERE'S HOPE FOR THE FUTURE OF FLOQUIL, AFTER ALL!!!!  KEEP THE FAITH!!  HOPE FOR THE BEST!!

Tenax is the consistency of water and just doesn't work nearly as well on our 1/4" thick plastic as some of the other glues that are a thicker consistency.

Tenax is not for all plastics by anyone's imagination - no idea what Ameritown kits are made of anyway.......matching the adhesive or glue to the material is usually a good thing to do,

It's actually quite a lot thinner than the consistency of water for some very obvious reasons.

Have you actually analyzed it or just a quess?  Like the claim the WD40 is just kerosene. I use methylene chloride and it doesn't seem as aggressive as Tenax.

If need be I can have in analyzed though.

Agreed.

For us (LHS), however, Tenax is the weld solvent of choice for most serious plastic (e.g., styrene) kit and scratch model builders (cars, ships, planes...trains).  The thin consistency and high volatility (fast set/dry) lends itself to one-small-drop application, and the appropriate applicators, such as...

and...

Particularly with the touch-and-flow applicator, and other hollow needle types, the thin consistency is highly desirable.

As always, everyone has an opinion, everyone has a favorite, ...stick with what you've found works best for you, I say.

As to the new owner....I believe the company name is unchanged...Hebner... but I can't be sure about that without a few inquiries.

If your LHS never ran out of the stuff, congratulations....they had either lower demand or higher reserve stocking practices.  All of our several distributors of the adhesive ran out for a period of months...as did we, much to our customers' dismay.  In the midst of the Floquil hysteria, I thought it was a boomer amidst the bummers.

Meanwhile, under the rock....

We (LHS) had the same problem for awhile.  Change of ownership, again.  But it's back in stock...at least at a couple of our distributors.  The first shipment, however, had three empty bottles out of 24!!  Caps were not on tight.  Per chain of response, owner aware of the problem, promised to correct immediately (my guess is a cocked sealing washer in the brush cap).

Micromark has a weld solvent called 'Same Stuff', which purports to be identical.  Enough said.

Inconsistent availability of any of these materials??   .....part of the hobby industry's evolving 'way-of-life'!  Get used to it.

Yes.  I have my own chemistry labs.
