Joe, I have never been to Maine, but that is Similar to what I have heard! LOL
I figured since we have a bit of time, I would work on my York list of things I am looking into/for. I say it like that, because you may not find what you're looking for. I have 6 things which if I find one, it wipes out the others(engine). See what comes in October, that's for sure.
Getting closer
Is that a smile on your face?
I have a feeling it is going to be a bit different from what we have become accustomed to, over the years.

I agree and have been feeling that way for the last several meets. However, as long as they keep having York meets and the good Lord allows it, I will continue to attend as I enjoy the social aspect far more than the trains at this point in my life.

Well I came to the conclusion I will have to wait until spring. The Greenberg show and 2 1/2 hours driving a couple weeks ago was rough on both my legs. I will be getting a knee replacement after my wife recuperates from her surgery last week. I would be foolish to sit in a car 4 1/2 hours each way and not be able to get around well while there. Hopefully I will see you in the spring!
Rest up, heal up, and most of all relax Mark. We'll get you in the spring.
Thank you, Dave! I just finished my exercises. Ouch! LOL. I’ll plan on spring!

Mark,
Sounds like the best plan is to rest/relax and plan for April. Hope to catch up with you then.
Thank you, Mike! April it is!!
Mark.....that sounds like a good plan.....but think about your own schedule....give yourself 8-10 weeks to be sure you are ready for a 20,000+ step day.....look at your schedule and talk to your orthopedic surgeon and get on his schedule so you have plenty of time to recover.
Peter
Peter, Thank you very much for the doctorly advice!! I will definitely talk it over with my orthopedic surgeon before making plans!! That is in keeping with Mike G's advice to not rush things!!
Almost down to two months. Well, I guess we are really aren't we?
Eight weeks, six and a half days until we leave for this mecca.
We'll get there early Tuesday, 10/15. Do the hotel and firehouse shows that day and Wednesday. Fairgrounds Thursday and Friday. Saturday we usually find something else train related to do. Home Saturday night.
This will be my 34th York. Gets better every year. Less train buyin' but more learning and more friends

Are you taking in 611 at Strasburg? I'm going to be there that Friday.
Dave, Tell me more.
Dates?

It may be difficult finding something still open. You might have to figure out if you are able as most of the stuff for Friday was out the door when I ordered my tickets some time ago(think just after it was posted, late June or July). Good luck, hopefully you are able to work something in. If not, pictures would be the only thing open if you can get in the area. I know they said in there somewhere about charging for extra parking.
First sign that York is near...our supermarket just put out Halloween candy.
The countdown may have begin until the event begins but I predict that the real count down will be the continued decline in attendance.

A nice positive comment to get everyone excited about going to York.
Perhaps a visit to the airport to boo bad landings might be more fun.

John, any luck for you finding a spot to catch 611?
I'd love to Dave, waiting (probably too long) for my York traveling companions to make up their minds.
I would look forward to your report and pics if we don't make it
@Lionelski, did you check out what was still available(if any)? The worst you could do if you don't get anything with 611 would be go over to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. When I get in on Wednesday that is actually my first stop. I figure I can see what is updated since my visit there from 2016 and maybe snag some photos of 611 across the way and or by the Toy Train Museum when I head over there.
Also guys and gals, while visiting York, please don't forget to stop by the White Rose Hobbies, the only local hobby shop in the York area to have a very nice collection of postwar-modern trains. We will be organizing a TCA/OGR meet here in the near future so stay tuned for updates!
Will Lionel be present?

Yes, Lionel will be there.
Never heard of them. WHAT IS THE ADDRESS OF WHITE ROSE HOBBIES?

A google search for White Rose Hobbies York PA yields the website and Facebook page.
I wonder what the TCA presentation at the Toy Train Museum will be like this year?
Ok, this may sound like a dumb question but please bear with me. I’m coming down for my first trip to York. Meanwhile working away at the layout and I need 3 O72 Fastrack switches. Do I hold off until York because chances are good of finding said switches at a reduced price... or for an item like this better to just order from a big train retailer? Are the prices on things like this from the retailers “better” in person at York? I don’t have a local retailer who sells so I need to order or wait until York.
Just curious on your thoughts. I know no one has an exact answer as each meet is different. Thanks for your input!!
G
Charles Ro Supply, back wall in Orange Hall, has the full line of Fastrack including the 072 switches you’re looking for. Best prices at York.
Yeah Gerhardt, Bob is probably right on with what he said. Charles To Supply is very well stocked with just about everything you can think of from engines, buildings, rolling stock and track. You will see a lot for it being your first time, but rest assured, head to the back wall for them, should see a sign. Also, I think they have the vendor map up already(right) on the TCA website, that will help too.
Ok thanks. So, generally do dealers have better prices at York than they would if you order from them online? It’s funny because I was going to order from them. Thanks, G
Prices should be very competitive but cheaper than normal. Also, remember to follow the simple rule, if you see it, snatch it up as it will be gone if you go and come back. Generally if you know it is something you can do without for now, pass it, if not grab it. It may be hard to compare prices depending on what you're looking for(as some stuff is gone right away), but you'll still get better prices than online.
Thanks Dave! I appreciate. Can’t wait....
just ordered and paid for my badge
Alright! I've got everything lined up and the itinerary set!
- Flight is booked to arrive Tuesday night of York Week and check in to the hotel
- Wednesday just hanging around the area, meeting up with friends
- Thursday - Saturday walking the aisles of the Fairgrounds
- Saturday evening check into hotel near Philly and an early dinner with my daughter then attend the Philadelphia Flyers vs. Dallas Stars hockey game
- Sunday morning drive up to the New Jersey Hirailers / OGR party
- Sunday night check into hotel near BWI airport
- Monday late morning board our flight home
Only thing left to do is to rent the car. It's a week long party!! And something is always added to the itinerary!
Alright, here is my dilemma. I joined this board a few years ago. From newbie to what it is now, I have posted questions and searched for answers. I have been helped by people that participate actively on this forum, always helping.
My wife and I did the breakfast, but not dinner. Short of a name tag on everyone, we probably walk past each of you 8 times on the floor. My handle here is my first and last name. If you see me, please say hi so I can thank you.
Registered last night, Red Lion inn also. Now perfect sun 78 degrees with autumn colors. Priceless.
