Usually it's April York that is always hectic with "unpleasant" tasks needing to get done first, such as taxes.   

This year it's a double whammy for me as I have to complete the FAFSA between 10/1 and York and get all those student loan headaches out of the way for my son as he graduates high school in the Spring and it's college/scholarship application time.

I will be chomping at the bit when Thursday of York week arrives this October!

The closer we get to  visiting The Great York Event, the more exciting it gets. I was wondering if there might be a Legacy Users Group meeting being considered? I know it was placed on hold, just wondering if there might be a change? Either way, it’s going to be time well spent, visiting friends from the past, making new friends for the future, seeing the new products forthcoming, and seeing those older trains that we’re responsible for this addiction......It would be fun to meet many of our forum friends, shake hands, visit a bit, and simply put a face to the name. Let’s prepare for fun....Happy Railroading, It’s great to belong to the TCA....

Hey Larry, IIRC I believe that this October the Legacy Users Group wasn't happening. I think MartyE said that there wasn't space or time to do so. If that was changing MartyE would be the one to ask. I know that I was hoping to attending it for the first time but realized I would be at Strasburg with 611 for the morning. As far as everything else, it should be great.

Register a few weeks ago.  Waiting for badges. Will give it the rest if the week before a phone follow up.

Wow, October is coming fast. I still have to get some stuff straightened out before it is time to go for a drive out there. Ain't nothing worse than forgetting something you should have done earlier.

Eddie.......I keep forgetting if the count down is by analog or digital?  Left foot or right foot?  Will see you sometime at October York.

I was at Just Trains of Delaware Wednesday travelling on business, and was told the Strasburg museum will be a madhouse with the N & W (I believe) there to be visited.  He was saying that the museum is pulling out all the stops on generating revenue.  Even walking on the property.  I like to go there after picking up the car and hear from MTH, Lionel and Bachman.  I think I might take a pass if this is the case.  Anyone, else heard similar comments regarding the Museum?

Strasburg is going to be a zoo with 611. I myself will be popping into the Railroad Museum next door that Wednesday for a few hours before heading over to the TTM for that big fun. I know the Strasburg Railroad had said in their advert about 611, come earlier than start times, extra parking will be available, etc., etc. So madhouse I think is going to be an understatement. I will get a feel that's for sure of what the crowd will be like two days early(depending when I get there Wednesday) to gauge what Friday is going to be like. Hopefully getting in and out won't be a mess, but you know it will be.

We're getting there. All I can think about is the weather and sleeping, lol. I know it's silly, but I usually sleep okay out there, somewhat better than home. I hope the weather is great as usual. Any news on the weather report?

Getting excited about it, too!  *Might* be the last 3 day York for a long time, maybe ever (different thread, I know).  As for the weather, I don't think you can have much confidence in anything this far out, let alone a week out.

It went from that to wintery colds blowing hard. I think the mid to low 20's the day after we got there which came back to spring one the third day.

Wow!  That's intense!  I just never understood (nothing wrong with it b/c I'm excited too) about posting updates on weather when it's so far out.  If I were flying in, I would check the weather when I had to pack, probably not even a week out.  Too much can change, in my opinion.  Regardless, I'll be there no matter what temp shows up or precipitation chances.  It's a great time regardless of weather!

I can recall, very clearly, that when I was a boy in the 50's, it unexpectedly snowed so hard on Easter Sunday, we couldn't make it all the way home from my grandmother's house (McKeesport to Duquesne Place, PA). We had to abandon the car (1951 Mercury sedan), leaving it in a parking lot, and walk home, my parents and I. And we certainly were not dressed for that surprise. 36" was the total, I believe, by Monday. The car sat there a week.

When our next-door neighbor, on the right in this picture, the snow had piled so near the top of his garage door, that when he opened it from the inside, he was able , first, to let his son, my play-buddy, to tunnel out and over to our house. The snow had accumulated right up to and including the floor of our front porch. And that was April.

I only look at the weather to pick clothes to take (coming from South Texas it does make a difference),

I've been there when its unbelievably warm, and sometimes when its colder than normal.  Once it snowed in april.

As the events have scaled down in size the weather has less of an impact on shopping.  Most of the Sheraton show can be managed inside if the pool and banquet areas are used.  The other bandit shows dont have anything outdoors anymore.

Enough parking is now vacant at the fairgrounds you can drive and park near different groups of the bldgs.

Of course sunny and a high of 62 would be great for the whole week.

It's a 4 day York as far as I'm concerned - the OGR Birthday party counts as part of York for me!

Regardless of the forecast, I travel prepared for anything from 30 to 80 degrees, snow, ice, rain, or blazing heat.  The only thing that might change is the mix of shorts and long pants, but there's always some of both.

I just don't want rain. Sure I can deal with it, but I'd rather have sun out most of the time, cloudy can be alright too. My one coworker who retired last year always had issues with his vacation time relating to rain. Our late coworker used to tease him when he'd come back from his vacation saying how it must have been nice being all couped up inside since it was raining.

Either way I'll have a great time because it's just the way I am. Hopefully we get the best weather for York so we can all say it was dynamite.

It's starting to get to the point for finishing touches on travel plans. I want to hit the Reading steam train on the 13th, but I got to figure out distance and times yet. The BR&W has a train on the 12th to look at fall foliage as well. Can you imagine me hitting those two, popping to the Railroad Museum of PA, popping to the Toy Train Museum, York, over to Strasburg, back to York, then on Sunday visit the Hirailers for the OGR 50th. That sounds like a lot of training, lol.

Dave - it sounds like a lot of fun to me!

Yeah, that's what I said too. Just need to get logistics figured out so I won't be late, lol.

That reminds me, I need to rent a car. Everything else is all set!

Enough of this countdown stuff.  OK kids "get in the car", "we're leaving now"!  Really, the buzz here seems stronger than last spring.  Fall is train time!

Someone cue the music? I hope that the 60's weather is indeed what we get. Here in NJ it's been up and down. Wear a sweatshirt at night, wear short sleeves for the day. I don't want to bring my coat, but will in case of crazy blowing wind and rain. Last October I was mighty glad I did and we had frost the one morning. Of course getting up at 6 was probably part of the problem with that, lol.
