3Rail,

What a nicely done tribute to the likes of "The Daylight" a most colorful and uplifting train.  Thoughts and memories of the California coast.

I don't believe I had noticed your layout previously. It is very well thought out and complex, but not overdone. Also, a very well-produced and informative video. I will search others you may have done.

Any links to your track-plan or other layout representations?

Thank you.

Very nice video! Thanks.

What is your road made of? Looks good.

Hey BobbyD. My roads start as Masonite, 1/8” thick. Glued to the tabletop. Then I mix up some Sculptamold the consistency of a thick batter and rub that on top of the Masonite. It fills in the cracks and provides some texture.

Now that I have texture, I sand most of it off!!

I have my own mix of blacktop paint I use. Some grimy black, woodland scenics blacktop mix and some neutral gray acrylic from a tube. Paint it on.

Then another sanding to bring out the variations.

Finally, the stripes and stuff is from a guy that sells at York. I do not remember his name but he is in the Orange Hall. Update…..it is Red Lion Depot.

Hope that helps.

Donald

Thank you very much Kevin for the kind words.

if you get OGR the magazine…my layout was the cover feature in Run 313. More of it was in Run 316 and then again on the cover in Run 319. I also write an article usually every issue with some “how to” stuff and anything else you guys may find interesting.

Hope that helps.

@3rail  Like everyone else nice work on the video and the layout.  I have a repro photo of the Daylight pulling out of Los Angeles in the 50s which is among my favorites. I also have several pro photos given to me when it was running out west. Would love to see that consist in person some day.

One of these days I'll post my MTH GS4 running on the Twin Pines RR. Have it torn up right now repairing a bad track section.
