So we are down to PS2 upgrades(when they are in stock) and Electric RR cruise commander. Fun times when the EOB begin to start failing which I hope won't happen for a long, long time.

ERR Cruise is easier to install and runs better.quote:
I'll agree that the ERR kit is easier to install and for the most part runs well. However, one couldn't ask for more in regards to the smoothness and adjustability that EOB has to offer. It's great to see that Mike R. is on staff with the Lionel gang and surly thank him for his contributions with them. I do however miss the fact that we are no longer able to get EOB kits.

I have 5 Lionel engines with sounds I LOVE and run great with cruise but dislike only 2 chuff per revolution.
Happy railroading,

But will the ERR cruise upgrade change the chuff rate from 2 to 4 per revolution like the EOB product will?

NO, the one short coming of ERR cruise. You will have to use a reed switch and earth magnets on a driver wheel if it will fit.

I have two engines with EOB problems, I don't know how or if I will be able to get them fixed.

Scott you can also contact me off line and I will try to help. BF
Given that, this question - if a defect appears in my Atlas engines' EOB, will that shut down or interfere with the rest of the TMCC command system or circuit boards, or will the engine keep right on running but just without cruise control?
In other words, how will problems with EOB in the future affect an engine's operation, assuming you don't have grades and don't need cruise to start with.

Gary, if you have a 3RD Rail engine with the 2, or 4 chuff cam you can still keep this option with ERR. I still think EOB operates my engines better then ERR. I use ERR to upgrade diesels and EOB for steam. BF
I have to ask Sasquatch. I'm looking for old EOB motherboard firmware pre noise reduction so I can control the smoke unit fan with the motherboard. The chuffing that is. Wouldn't happen to have all IC laying around?
Ok, I open it to anyone????
At any rate, it doesn't change my concern, which is whether problems with EOB will compromise an engine's running so that the EOB has to be removed or replaced.
This is also not going to help on selling an engine with a system that's been dropped.
Sasquatch, I have a few steamers with either ERR Cruise Commander (two MTH PS/1 models) or the Cruise Commander M (several Lionel models that had basic modular TMCC. I've seen no issue with the speed control of the steamers over the diesels.
Well, that happens to other types of electronics as well, so I don't think we can call that a fault of EOB specifically.quote:Originally posted by ironlake2:
Oh yeah, I forgot I have an atlas rs 1 with eob that just quit running and also sits on the self.
Thanks

Couldn't you just do that with the chuff switch? Maybe buffering the output so it doesn't interfere with the sound board. Use a one shot to adjust the length of time the fan runs???

When the new forum is up and running I'll post a video.
Sorry to say I won't be attending York for some time to come. Send me a private email with your suggestions
Still have two of the EOB Drop-In Board kits available. One is complete and the other is missing the flywheel sensor. Both have never been installed or used. See my ad on the Buy - Sell board.

I've been wondering the same thing for quite a while now. Isn't a chuff switch a simple on/off switch? Couldn't the fan be wired through this?

Been there tried it. Here's a video of my 3rdrail niagara with a MTH smoke unit with the fan controlled by the EOB motherboard. Upgraded back in 2002
I've seen the Reid switch with a magnet installed on a driver or tender wheel even did it in N scale but we called it a trigger but has anyone ever thought of putting 2 Reid switches inside the 2 steam cylinders? you'd need a Reid switch for the left and right cylinder.
You could mount a switch to turn one Reid switch off for 2 chuffs and mount a magnet on the piston rod slider that way you'd only need 2 magnets.
O scale is a lot bigger than N scale and you would have enough room in most engines, just wondered if anyone had seen this?
