I am so delighted that Lionel has decided to manufacture the T1 since its predecessor back in 1989! This is LONG overdue! I purchased a "Texas" with the "Steam blow-off" and was waiting for an engine to purchase with "Whistle Steam" effect. I think this will be the one, boys! (I just hope the recorded sounds are not the same as all the other voices-- for a while it seemed the same engineer was in the cab of every VISIONLINE steamer! LOL)
I am curious about why this engine took so long for a re-issue. Didn't Mike W. draft the blueprints for the original T-1 when he was with Lionel? Could he have owned patents on this engine that have now expired? I'm probably wrong here, and don't mean to start any rumors, but you would think that for such a popular engine with 4 road numbers still in existence today, Lionel would celebrate these engines more often.
Anybody have insight? Thoughts?
