Next to my MTH Proto-2 Blue Comet, the "Lionel Classics" 2-400E is my favorite.

The high-gloss dark gray finish (NOT referred to as "Gunmetal") is very attractive. This engine included a diecast whistle in the tender, and this was never mentioned in the catalog description or on the engine's carton flap. Confused Also, of interest, is the electronic whistle relay instead of the usual mechanical one.

My 2-400E is a flawless performer, either pulling my five-car work train or a string of "Apple Green" MTH 418 series passenger cars.

The "Lionel Lines" badging is an added bonus.

Great looker; great engine! Smile

The Korean production of the "Lionel Classics" by Samhongsa was first-rate in terms of both finish and mechanical construction.

I should note my Proto-2 "Blue Comet" nickel-trim 400E also has an excellent paint finish, and is a fine runner with great smoke output and a haunting whisle recording.

Neither the gray or my "Blue Comet" 400E's have traction tires.

I even replaced the traction tires on my Brute - just do NOT like 'em!
