I recently acquired a Lionel, Southern Pacific GS-2 Daylight 4-8-4, not running. I’ve been told it smells burnt (sorry, I can’t tell since I lost my smell to covid). Looking online, I found the Motor Doctor and contacted him. It seemed kind of sketchy since he didn’t give much information as to himself or location. He just wanted me to mail the locomotive to a post office box in Harrison, Ohio & wouldn’t allow me to drop it off. I wasn’t comfortable doing this since I feel the locomotive is probably worth a couple hundred dollars, I wouldn’t be able to track it and Harrison, Ohio is only about a 15-20 minute drive for me. Does anyone know anything about him or ever had any dealings with him? I would really like to get this up & running. Thanks

yes, he is highly reputable and if your motors end of being bad he can repair the Pittman and other motors in the engines!

If you don't mind taking the motor out, you can send him just the motor.
He did wonderful work for me with above and beyond follow up support. I sent him some field coils that needed rewiring.
Thanks so much for all the input. I feel better about sending it to him. I’ll send the whole locomotive so maybe he can tell why it burnt & repair anything else as needed
Finally sent loco to Motor Doctor for repairs Turn around time was about a month & charge for the work he did, I would consider “VERY” reasonable. Train runs great. Would highly recommend him.
Does the Motor Doctor have a name? I only ask to avoid possible confusion in future if someone else were to describe himself as a 'Motor Doctor'.
Well, he has a website 'themotordoctor.com', so unless he lets it go or sells it, you're pretty much going to get the dude. His first name is Albert and you can reach him at;
motordoc@themotordoctor.com
@texgeekboy - Thanks for the link to The Motor Doctor's website. Today I reviewed it thoroughly and I think it's an excellent well laid out source of helpful information about Lionel trains which I highly recommend to other Forum users.
Old post resurrect: I've been out of the hobby for a while so well as here. I can also give a big thumps up to The Motor Doctor, my Dad's pre-war 152 needed some major love, it came back after a couple weeks lookin & runnin like new. This was like 18+ years ago when it was done!
