I would not be too surprised if it is a Vision Allegheny.  Regardless, a Vision 611 will not float my boat.  The Legacy version I have is quite fine enough.  I still want a Vision A-B-B-A set of F3s, but that probably won't happen. 

Lionel did a JLC Allegheny about the time that they did the original JLC Big Boy.  That original BB contributed many of the castings, etc., to the latest Vision BigBoy, and they can do the same thing with their Allegheny, so I expect they will.  

I think Vision-line F units would be a big seller.

I'd be happy just to get the Neil Young PRR set I ordered, how long ago?

The Legacy J was just delivered with the mistake of no whistle steam. Not likely thas gonna happen.

The legacy Y6's are the way to there buyers right now, best bet is to buy one of those and change the number, not likely there will be a VL version now.

I'd prefer to see something that hasn't been rehashed  by Lionel multiple times, and has numerous issues that need correction...... a VL Niagara.

A Vision Line Allegheny is my prediction.

With ALL the bells and whistles. Blowdown, whistle steam,

swinging bell (IF prototypical), steam chest emission, and

perhaps an applance or two on top of the boiler emitting steam.

Will it cost more than a Big Boy? Of course.

My hope is that Lionel avoids choosing something that is not on the typical wish list. A double headed Centipede. It could be run by how many hobbyists? Ten percent ?

In addition, a Vision locomotive should be a steamer. A diesel or electric has insufficient "Gizmos" to make it an offer that hobbyists cannot resist. Spinning fans on a Centipede?

The marketing people who picked that are the same marketing people who told me at York,

"Lionel cannot put whistle steam in locomotives because . . .

a) It is too expensive

b) We cannot fit it in the boilers

c) Jon 'You know who' spends all his research time working Ipad apps

d) The economy sucks

The Vision Line ES44ACs seem to be really popular now. Have you checked the prices these are going for lately? I think a diesel should be next up.

It has to be something iconic, like an F7 or SD40-2.

We have to consider what locomotives would be good candidates as Vision products before we can even think of asking to make a specific one.

Like Rick said, Lionel already did the regular Legacy version of the 611 J within the last 2 years, so that's not going to happen, nor a Southern #4501 Mikado or even a GS-4 Daylight.

I for one agree that a Vision Allegheny is a great idea, and I also root for a Vision Niagara, or even a regular Legacy with whistle steam version at least.

As for my own, I'd love to see Vision Line runs of the Reading/Chessie Steam Special T-1's. Those engines are beautiful, and it's been 24 years since Lionel last did the T-1's. Considering their popularity, #2100 being restored, their significance in modern Lionel history, and their wide variety of colors to be offered, these would make great Vision items at best.

I Hope the next VL is an Allegheny... Lionel has one more VL purchase from me if they make it an Allegheny. Would not buy if it where a J, but I would love for them to put a whistle steam effect into the Legacy version like the new J3a Hudson though. Would be great if they package with the new 21" passenger cars. But I have a feeling the next package deal their will be the UP FEF with passenger cars as UP cars were missing from the substantial list of road names in the first run. UP is almost always in the first run of anything. I would also love a VL Erie Triplex which I don't think will happen as it would make me happy and I choose not to buy the MTH Premier version that is coming soon. Now an Allegheny would be great... prolly deliver in Dec 2016 which would give me too long to wait. Its got to have the depleting coal load though. I think if this feature were lost there would be public outcry like when the whistle steam went away. Is a swinging bell prototypical? I would love that option. One of my favorite VL features. Its hard not to ring the bell on the ATSF 3000.

As for VL diesels I agree that the Centipede was a dumb idea with rotating fan blades. But that is what is great about Lionel, they take risks with new things. A cock up like that makes me wonder about the marketing department but hopefully it provided some market knowledge. I do love the Genset switcher though... and proves that VL diesels have some value the 3 separate diesels with independent smoke is sweet. I don't own any diesels but I want this one. I would also buy my first diesel if it were a UP ABBA F3. I'm not sure what else I would want other then Legacy and each unit smoking would provide, probably all four powered with sounds and smoke and a new kinematic connection that reduces the massive gap between units.

True, Lionel should not overlook VL cars as well! I would love some VL coal cars. Would look great behind a VL Allegheny or Triplex

I don't think it'll be a UP FEF. Especially following the VL BB.   

But who knows? We'll see.   

I DO think you'll see an FEF in the catalog soon with new 21" UP passenger cars.  A number other than 844 would be nice.  I'll take a grey and black one, please!

Budget has been kind of tight for a bit, so I have passed on the spendy things, but an SP&S 700 would be something that I would sell some things to get.

 Unfortunately, when Lionel did the Legacy SP GS4, they didn't offer a 4449 Road number, poor choice, but I bought the 4436 any way.

Also, Unfortunately, I am sure that the OR&N 197 is way to obscure to even Hope for, I doubt that would even be likely once IF/WHEN her restoration is complete and she is back in steam again.

I would take a PASS on that UGLY Allegheny Beast, I would like to see more that are actually running, and I think that some smaller types would be popular, though I admit, I like the BIG stuff as much as the next guy.

D500, I only know of the well known Allegheny's, and overall, I suppose, that they aren't THAT bad, but that Second Story Pilot deck has always just looked wrong/ awful to ME, YMMV.

 We all have different tastes, seems that I also offended a few folks awhile back when I voiced MY OPINION, on the GAG1(GG1), Then there were those that couldn't see the BEAUTY in the Aero-Train, and there is the untold number of complainers every time a UP Big Boy or Challenger is released, but some how those always seem to sell, which, I Imagine is WHY they keep being produced.

I agree that it will be a Allegheny. As mentioned above, it originally came right after the Big Boy. Been asking for this for the last year. Hopefully, it will be the next one. Would make sense since the 611 was re-made way after the Allegheny.

I've been wishing for a c&o allegheny as well.  In vision line would be something of another animal! 

The Allegheny is a no-brainer. Long over due.

However I was hoping Lionel would break their re-release strategy and maybe do something spectacular?

I would personally like to see a Vision Line model of an NS RoadRailer set complete with a NS GP60 with rotating fan blades, semi fixed pilot, opening engine cabinet doors, working gauges and cab screens, and a pop off nose to reveal a bathroom, and 9-10 RoadRailer cars with rotating bearing cabs, and sounds like Lionel did on the tank cars a few years ago.

I would love to see the M1 turbine! That thing is so big and powerful looking: amazing. Of course, lets try to keep it as low cost as possible for us people that want Vision Line but don't have $2999.99 or $3999.99 to spare! 

Your right, the cost strategy has been set. Seems anything vision line will be 1500.00 on up to 2k BTO.

The Big Boy was a great success, the Centipedes a disaster.

Remakes are a natural hit when looking at the books. Hopefully they will inspire to make new product...

Doug (challenger3980) - no offense, bud. All in good fun - and I'm not the biggest fan of the GG1, either - though I don't dislike it. I do like electrics, but as a NYC guy, well, a PRR unit is always...suspect!

I do love the beasty Allegheny (I have only that nice K-Line 1:58 version), but it is not my

favorite articulated.

If we are to see a Vision articulated, is should, would, MUST be the SP AC-9 2-8-8-4 Lima.

Best-looking articulated, ever. 

Still vote for the Niagara - in a Pilot version, too.

I seem to recall it took MTH a long time to unload their C&O turbines for far less.

Your all asking for something big, long and expensive. Me, I might consider going for a VisionLine "General". Something dying to be made correctly and scaled.

For all the Pennsy fans and myself alike.....the prr t1 duplex or prr s1 duplex might make good candidates as well! I think these would appeal to a larger crowd and the molds are screaming to be used again!

What makes the Vision Line the Vision Line are features that have never been done in O gauge before.

So the real question is not so much which engine, but what new features can be done?

Personally, I'd just like re-issues of the N&W J 611 and UP FEF 844 with whistle smoke (and they can do multiple road numbers for those who don't want another 611 or 844).

 A VL J? Are you kidding me, no way. There must be thousands of J's out there made by our mfgs. We don't need another one. The C&O M1 turbine would be worse then the centipede, a door stop for sure. 

Lets have something new, like a UP mountain, or something from the early part of the 20 th century, maybe a set with scale cars. How about a NYC  2-6-6-2, the only articulated the NYC owned. 

Make it reasonable and not in the $2900+ range, keep it in the $1400-$1900 range and they will sell. Any higher, keep them. 

You are right sir... that means the 12 other people that wanted that thing already have it. 

btw: my vote goes to the FEF fer sure!!

I think that they should look in to the Southern 630. It could run on almost any layout (their old 2-8-0 release can run on O-31). It is a modest sized locomotive that still runs today. With the same tooling they could do the Southern 722 (in green and black) and the Savannah and Atlanta 750. I think the market is overcrowded with big stuff. I love watching articulateds as much as the next guy, but sticking smoke effects in a 30 inch boiler is easy. Let's try and get it in something smaller.

Vision Line Allegheny or Vision Line N&W #1218......something that still exists in excursion service or a prominent museum piece that people can see, touch, and relate to.....look how popular the VL BB #4012, and especially #4014 are......  

Why a Vision Steamer or Diesel as the next expensive item?

Why not more Vision style cars at a lessor price?
