My first long distance train trip (sleeper) was New Jersey to Chicago on the DL&W/NKP, then Santa Fe Texas Chief to Ponca City, Okla.. Never forgot the service and food on the Texas Chief. It was 1959 or 1960.
One of my biggest regrets is that I was never able to take an original Santa Fe train to the west coast.
Me too Chugman, me too.
I got to see the Super Chief and El Capitan twice a day almost every day from age 10-13 as we lived 1/2 block from the Santa Fe main line. Sorry to say I never got to ride either one.
