When I built my layout a few years ago, I never dreamed of owning a State Set. Ended up getting one last year, but to date have only run it at club meets. Today I tested the 408 and one car going through the S and the Erector Girder Bridge. Barely makes it. Now to test it with all 4 cars.

Nice Steve. I had the same issue with the Lionel Hiawatha cars going through my Hellgate bridge. There was very little straight track before and after the bridge. I actually had to adjust the position of the bridge to maximize the clearance but it worked.

Passengers are advised to keep their hands and arms inside the car. Those Erector pieces have sharp edges.

Shouldnt the 408e should have its headlights on so the engineer can see properly see the clearance of the bridge?

That's when you need a beater to test with! Close but good. Probably won't be rumbling through at high speed though!

Yes, the engineer is reminded to obey the posted speed limit and leave his mobile phone in his backpack (unless ofcourse he is using the DCS WiFi app to control the train 
)!

Just curious: where did you find such a beautiful original state set? Auction, private sale or train show?
If you listen, you will hear the engine sounds. It's a MTH 408E and Lionel Classics coaches.

Lights coming soon. It has a short in the lighting system so for now I have the harness unplugged.

The loco alone is almost 20 pounds. I thought about adding a stiffener on the underside, but it seems to be Ok. A stiffener would just catch my back if I crawled under.
I once had a Marklin Metal bridge kit, and the erector-like green powder-painted girders were bolted together with brass nuts and machine screws. It made a handsome and sturdy bridge!
