The UP tank car is outstanding. Is this another Drake model? I'm guessing the SD-9 to be the PSC model from the mid 90's?

The tank car is a Pecos River Brass 0-50-6. The SD9 is an OMI detailed and repowered; work is still underway. Glad you enjoyed seeing them.

Thanks for the compliments they are neat models. The Blackbird is stunning in person. Perfect power for branch line passenger mixed train.

A prerequisite for doing O scale anything is painting 101

Just one addendum on the "Q" SD9........paint the wheels black!  Those long, lanky SD9's looked so much better with the "Everywhere West" and "Way of the Zephyrs" logos, then the Geeps! Nice, soul-satisfying work.

If I remember correctly, my first post to this forum was inquiring about O scale SD7/9. I was informed that they are not common in O as they were really only done by KTM, OMI and PSC.  It's somewhat frustrating that they can be had so readily in most other scales.  Finding info on these regardless of mfg seems scarce.

You probably don't want to know I have 4 different numbers of the Black Bird SD9. It's an OMI Ajin piece. OMI imported 31 in 1983. PSC imported them from Boo Rim a few years later can't recall. The PSC and the OMI both have drive issues. All if mine are repowered by Cockerham and Pittman. Sounds like a wine or law firm.

I know where 2 are new in box OMI not sure as to the purchasability. I can ask him.

So you have the beginnings of a herd I see.  Was that 31 total or 31 blackbirds?  Either way, not many out there.  It would be interesting to see what's available.  Living in AZ we feel so insulated from the rest of the o scale world.  No shows or anything that I'm aware of to see what's out there.

 

31 total in the run. Not sure about PSC knowing KTM 1000's. ;-)

Got any idea of the issue?  I wonder if there was any potential of its conversion noted back then vs. today when folks jump on converting stuff, etc.

 

Not everybody has a budget to buy 4 let alone 7 in brass,

HO RTR out of the box plastic models look so good- lucky ducks.

The main problem with the mth versions for me is the molded in grabs and ladders.  Essentially mega - Athearn ho.  But Athearn does have fixed pilots and 6 wheel drive so they have that at least.

So I can't even use the shell on a different drive.  I still remember the first time I saw one of the above mentioned mth cb&q sd9s.  I was so excited until I got a closer look. 

Atlas needs to get something like this together, they already did the sd35.  It's said that mfg don't want to do something that has already been done.  Sd7 or 9, the mth model can't really be competition?  Everything else is 2-3 decades old.

Yes.  Not functional since that's something that invariably breaks later is a total PITA to fix.
