I have started a new hobby at age 79: Amateur Radio. I recently upgraded my entry level Technician Class license to a General Class. (BTW, perfect scores on both exams!) I started with some analog/digital gear and now have both DMR and analog certification. My call sign is KO4TIY, if any forum hams want to contact me on the 2 meter and 70 cm bands. Also, my new DMR SkyBridge Hotspot setup is being programmed for code plugs, so I will be operating via Wi-Fi and the internet! 73!

Congratulations on your General Class certification, especially the perfect scores. I use radios (mostly VHF-FM and a little HF) for Civil Air Patrol search and rescue, but never had the time to pursue an amateur radio license. Age 79? I guess I still have a couple years to work on it.
I decided to go the DMR route with an AnyTone 878-UV Plus and a SkyBridge hotspot repeater instead of investing in HF equipment and an expensive large antenna at this time.
I have missed the forum these past several months while studying for my FCC exams and taking numerous practice tests, but my efforts paid off! My trains have largely been idle as well!
Hi Art
Nice to se you back here again. Congratulations on your perfect scores. Enjoy your new hobby.
10's and 7's always my friend
Sincerely
Frank
Well done, Art! You are amazing!
Peter
Congrats Art. I was a CB'er in my teens (what else was there to do in the late 70's).
Breaker- breaker good buddy!
Never got into HAM but a few of my friends were.
Enjoy.
Congratulations Art. Stay in touch with your train Buds as you progress. Always interesting to talk train folks with you. So many old fellows that we miss. Lot of good times and memories. Bob
Welcome to the World's Greatest Hobby! If you do Echolink, we have a net on Wednesday nights at 2030 called" The Piedmont Link". There are several ways to access it on Echolink, W4CHR-R is probably the easiest. Oh, and now upgrade to Extra!!
Will hold off on Extra while I hopefully master DMR.
