IMG_2176I think I have a TIU that is getting weak, I'm having a lot of problems with lash-ups.  I have a spare new one I can put in, however I don't want to loose any of the information that is stored in the TIU. What steps do I take to preserve all TIU information thats in the current TIU and put that information in the new one? I have 30 switches in there running on the accessories channels.

Your data is stored in the remote- not the TIU. Provided both are just set to TIU 1, only TIU specific settings matter- example variable channels set to fixed or other channel specific settings.

Edit- again, for the most part 99% of all your settings and data are in the remote. This is opposite to Lionel Legacy 990 for example or in theory BASE3 which in Lionel's system the base has the info. I think the MTH system works better for me when going from home layout and taking an engine to club layout- MTH I bring my engine and my remote and since both are TIU #1, the remote doesn't care it's not "my" TIU at club- everything works.

I also realize you are concerned about switches. Again, the AIU (which you did not mention) has no memory or storage so it's not storing anything. And, it is connected to the TIU, but the TIU is largely providing power for the AIU logic across the cable and a path from the remote to the AIU.

This is why- there is a way to backup or clone a remote- but you don't see backup a TIU or AIU in the DCS loader app.

If you want to back up your remote- that is done using the DCS Loader application on a PC connected to the TIU and your remote.

Last, the instructions https://mthtrains.com/sites/de...0.0_Instructions.pdf

page 13 of the manual- this is just a quick snap- use the above PDF

in the DCS operators manual page 72 it talks about saving the TIU -AIU information.

You are not putting 2 and 2 together with what I said and this note on that page.

#1 the remote stores the database in the remote.

#2 In order for the database to match up, as long as the TIU is the same ID number- THEN you do not have to re-enter all your data- because again that data was matched to the original TIU ID number.

Honestly, you took something simple, unplug old, plug in the new, and just use it, to way too much worry about nothing. You never lose your data unless you clear and reset a remote. It’s just does that data set stored in the remote match? A simple yes it works, or no it doesn’t, then change the TIU ID to match.
