Here is the install guide. It does not say you need to reboot, but it does say to search locally for the drivers after you install them, not use the update service. Also, check section 5.1, it could explain why it is not automatically found.

BTW, if you don't like my suggestions and comments, please just ignore me. Reading all those exclamation points directed at me hurts my head.

George;
Sorry about those "exclamation points". Didn't mean to hurt your head -- only trying to convey my enthusiasm to you.
When you referred to a "readme.txt" file, I didn't realize you were referring to the Application Note. I already read it and decided it didn't really help much.
Look at the 4th sentence in paragraph 3. "Installing CDM Drivers". As you see, it says to go forward with a manual install only if the automatic install fails -- that is the real question; why does the automatic install fail for some folks and not for others?
For me, it BOTH succeeds and fails. It succeeds on my desktop running Win 7 Pro 64 bit but fails on my laptop running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I wasn't able to see anything in the Application Note to help with that problem. All the info in the paragraph 5 "Troubleshooting" is dealing with other kinds of problems.
If I place the drivers in some folder somewhere and point the install wizard to that folder, everything works just fine.
What bugs me is the inability of the wizard to locate the drivers automatically from the internet search on my laptop like it does for my desktop.
Also, you'll notice there were some folks who contributed to this thread who indicated they had no problem with the wizard automatically locating the driver from the internet search and they were using the same Windows I'm using -- go figure.
Anyway, thanks George, for your help. I'm considering one more attempt to solve this mystery and if that fails, I'm moving on to other mysteries -- there's no shortage.
