I am sure this has been answered before, but do I need to buy a new cable to go from my TIU to my Legacy base. Can I use the same one that went from my TIU to my TMCC base?
I was not plan on keeping my TMCC base.

In ordert to connect the TIU to a Legacy Base, you need cable #50-1032. This cable works with either the Legacy or TMCC command base.
If this is the same cable that you have been using with your TMCC base, it will be fine. However, it looks just about exactly the same as the previous cable, #50-1018, which only works with the TMCC base.
This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!
Thanks Barry
I have the old cable. Guess I will have to head to Wild Bills this weekend to pick up the new one.

Tomas,
No use the one you have and plug it in on the rs-232 port on the tiu
As I stated above, his old cable will not work with Legacy. It only works with TMCC.
Where would I find a wiring diagram for the serial cable? I have all the parts and tools, so I don't see a reason to buy the cable if I can build it for free.

You won't. This is MTH, after all.
Supposedly the cable provides isolation so that layout common is not shorted to earth ground. However, it is definitely not full isolation. When I designed a microcontroller-TIU interface, I found that the TIU-Legacy cable was providing at least a partial path for earth ground.
One has to wonder why they felt the need for isolation for the serial connection...
John,

Because the original cable, which was not isolated, didn't work very well.
Well, I guess I'll order one of those as well.
