I am scratching my head.  For the second time trying to program my TMCC ALCo PA1's into the Legacy Control, I do not have all functions.  In both instances the couplers will not open.  The unit makes the uncoupling sound and you can hear the coupler try to open (buzz), but it does not open.  When programing the dummy unit into the train, I choose 9, I had to MU it 'elephant style' in the Legacy Control to get the lighting to work correctly.

The first time my attempt failed, I reprogrammed the unit back to #1 and #2, then TR 9 per the operators manual with the TMCC command base and control.  Oddly, the dummy unit was very stubborn about being reprogrammed back.  But, I did get it.  And all functions worked as advertised.

Am I missing something in the Legacy instruction manual?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!TMCC PA1 setTMCC PA1 train build.1TMCC PA1 train build.2

The only thing that I see is the direction of the dummy #19 in the MU setup. That will only affect the lighting.

Fine point I am not sure about - is the run/command switch sequence - manual states both should be in the run position when creating the TR (MU) after assigning each a unique id.

This is different than creating an individual id, where it is in prog id#, set, then back to run.

Thanks Carl.

Both units were placed back in 'Run' from 'Program after assigning the individual unit numbers in Legacy.  Then followed the instructions for building the 'train'.

From what I am seeing in the Legacy manual, the procedure is the same.  Other than actually assigning a name to the 'train' and what direction the unit faces as an icon when building it.

GWEEDO,  I will try that.  But, using the TMCC Command base and Controller at the same 14 to 16 volts indicated on the transformer never gave me an issue.  (The transformer being an MTH Z4000.

I also forgot to mention that I have done the reset on both units through Legacy (Run to Prgm. Power on. ENG, ID#, Set. - ENG, ID#, AUX 1 then 8. Power off. Prgm to Run).  No change.

FWIW, as far as the lights not working correctly, that could be explained if this is an earlier Legacy unit.  I have the Lionmaster Conrail SD80MAC from the 6-31772 freight set with the matching dummy.  No way you can get the lighting to work correctly in a lash-up.  After checking how they wired the lights and markers, the reason was clear.  They just didn't think of the MU configuration when designing the lighting, and it's not independently controlled.  I suspect probably a number of the early Legacy diesels have a similar issue.

Good information, John. Thanks for sharing your experience after looking at more than a few.
