hello. i hope this has not been mention before if so give me a link. anyway, i have a legacy engine which a gave it number 90 on my legacy remote. i also gave a number to my culvert unloader which was 45. now, the other day my legacy engine would not respond to commands, so i changed the number and it started working. today the same thing happened to my culvert unloader. changing the number made it work. what is going on with my legacy system?

please explain the steps you do to change the number. all steps start to finish.
hello bigdodgetrain and thanks for the reply. turn power off. put engine switch to program. turn power on. put number in remote. hit set. turn power off. put engine switch to run. turn power back on. hope this helps. did the same thing to the culvert unloader.
How about the exact model number of the Legacy locomotive?
hello gunrunnerjohn. thanks for the reply. the engine in question is the union pacific 9000. lionel model number, 6-38029
That locomotive is a TMCC locomotive, not a Legacy model. There's really nothing but the R2LC and perhaps the programming switch/wiring that would cause it to lose it's TMCC address.
Here's the reprogramming instructions from the manual.

hello john. thanks for the info. i meant to say that this engine was a tmcc engine but got typing too fast and it was late. so you think it is in the engine and not the remote? but what about the culvert unloader. why would it lose it's id number? thanks again. bill
The remote can't "lose" the number. If you select TMCC engine ID #10 from the remote, any TMCC locomotive with an ID of #10 should respond.
What command system are you using the Legacy CAB2, Legacy Lite CAB1-L, or TMCC CAB1/BASE1? If you're using the full Legacy, make sure the type of control isn't set at Legacy for TMCC devices.
hello john. the command system is the full legacy. i have the up 9000 set in the controller as tmcc. however, i just checked the culvert unloader and found it was not set as tmcc. set it up as tmcc and it works with the old number i put in. learn something new every day. i thank you again, john, for opening my eyes in the complex electronic world.
It's a learning process. For the Legacy, I've traveled this road already!
