Hi, Just purchased a CAB-1 with Base and tried to hook up on my layout. I have three separate loops, Using a ZW-C with three 180W bricks. Attempted to set up on Track 1. ZW-C programming worked, programmed a Diesel and all I could get was the horn, Bell, and the front and rear couplers to work use the CAB-1 controller. No direction control forward or reverse. Tried to re-program, now nothing. I have all grounds to a common bus bar, my power bricks are phased, so common should be common, or do I need to separate all of these?   I tried moving ground direct to U post on the ZW-C, then tried soldering direct to out side rail. The CAB-1 seems to be "talking" to the base as the red light flickers as you move the throttle button or push the buttons. I looked at the you tube Lionel videos before I started and it would seem that I followed them correctly, but have now hit a wall. Extremely frustrated at this point and now reaching out to see if anyone out there has any suggestions.

Thanks

Do you have a second TMCC engine to try?

With 18V to the track and the engine responding with the horn, bell and couplers it would seem that TMCC is working.  If TMCC is not working, usually when you apply 18V to the track the engine will wake up in conventional mode and take off.  You might try cycling forward/neutral/reverse conventionally to see if anything happens.  No movement with conventional F/N/R and your engine does realize TMCC is present.

I would also double check any tether connections and options switches.  Maybe a direction lock-out switch is jamming you up?  Usually when I have an issue I cycle all switches just to be sure they are seated the way they are suppose to be.  Just a thought.  Good luck.

Thanks to all that replied, I replaced batteries and I removed a switch that I thought might be the problem, and confirmed that the engine was in run mode. I made a little headway today, as I am at least back to where I started. I can now get the engine to start up through the CAB-1,  I can get the front and back couplers to work through the CAB-1 and also the horn and bell. I can get the head lights to come on, although they are not on solid, there is a flicker, and can get the engine to move now maybe a foot before it stops moving. The engine idle increases and decreases. I try going in reverse, the same thing happens. Not that it should matter, but the track is a large loop, 16 foot by 20 foot by 16 foot by 20 foot. So it's my longest loop. The fact that I can get it to move at least a foot tends to lead me to think maybe I have a track cleaning issue? Any other ideas? I am going to try another engine, but I'm tentative to fool around with another until I get the first one to work. Any other thoughts?

Jim
