my legacy remote is losing is ablity to issue commands. it will not run any tmcc engines. will not even call them up. it will run legacy engines in calling them to fire up , run forward and reverse, blow whistle, and that is it. this just started as it did everything before. i tried to reprogram the version, it has 1.6 in both the base and handheld but cant get the ad module on the screen to add version 1.6 with that module. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

For a start, put 3 new AA batteries in the remote. DO NOT PUT THE REMOTE ON THE 990 BASE.
Make sure the base is plugged, directly, into a grounded wall outlet.
Make sure the wire from the base is securely attached to the common rail(s).
You don’t mention how big your layout is but it would be best work this out with just a short section of test track.
Let us know how you make out. If it is still a problem, some of the other guys will jump in with some more suggestions.
thanks but your sugestions did not work. remote acts like it is dead on tmcc engines and will do basics on legacy engines. the system is only one month old and worked perfect when i got it then just went to pot when i turned it on on day. one think i notice is the base runs quited warm when not being used and gets the remote warm. that did not use to happen. it was cool. i leave it pluged in and charger in off position as i use alkaline batteries.
The bases can fail with bad or no signal output to the track.
