TPC Unit -- Ever get a bad one ??

Same serial input as the other ones that were never a problem? I've had issues with the tpc as to Legacy base signal amplitude compared to tmcc base serial port signal output level.

Roger, is he using TMCC or Legacy? If it's Legacy is he using the Z-Stuff Data Driver (DZ 2001) for his switches? If it's Legacy with the Data Driver then he needs to get Dale's Signal Booster http://www.trainfacts.com/trainfacts/?p=406. If he's not using Legacy and all the wiring is correct then you got a bad one.

He is just using the Legacy system with the Cab 2 remote. Nothing but that, TPC and 180w brick.

With that setup it should work. Do you see the light on the TPC blink when you press any of the buttons on the Cab 2? This will tell you if it's getting the signal.

Yes, it gives me the proper signals when you press the buttons on the CAB-2.

The only other thing I could think of is the ID of the TPC. Try reassigning the address again.

Is the TPC in conventional or Command mode?  If conventional you'll have to turn the red knob to get power.  I've switched mine before then my son couldn't get it to work since he didn't know I'd changed the mode.

As you've set several of these up before, these may sound like silly questions, but just in case....

 

When you address the TPC and press boost to activate it, does the LED start flashing quickly as normal, or does it remain at the slower blink rate?

 

If the LED flashes quickly, have you checked that the maximum track voltage hasn't been accidentally set down to zero?   To restore full power, address the TPC and then press AUX-1, AUX-2 and then 0.

Sounds to me like you have tried everything, I have TPC that worked perfectly fine then one day nothing. That TPC was assigned #1, what I found was if I assigned it another number 2 or 3 it would work perfectly fine. No rhyme or reason, but I just wanted to give you a little food for thought. I hope you get the situation resolved

It does not flash quickly like it is suppose to do, it just remains at the slower speed.

At the slower speed of the green flashing light means the TPC is set to command mode and when you address something through it, it will go into a much faster flashing green light. Try resetting the TPC by adressing it with your own set address and then press Aux 1, Aux 2 and zero-that is the default setting that is found in the booklet.

 

If nothing, try setting the TPC into conventional mode by addressing it and pressing the M button under the bottom cover of a cab-1. L is for command mode and M is for conventional mode.

Than address the TPC and press Aux 9 and then will give you full power and a SOLID green light. If you press Aux 3, that will give you 30% power. That informaion is in the back of the TPC booklet under hwo to use the TPC with proto 2 engines.

Correction to my previous post: Pressing Aux 1 and the 3 button is wrong-press Aux 1 and the 8 button gives you 30% power.
