Trackside Thursday

Mighty steam engine,  Lionel #241,  a 2-4-2 loco from 1965 (uncatalogued) pounds the rails and shakes the roof of the diner and spills coffee on everyone eating breakfast.  Luckily the "Starbucks" truck is ready with fresh supplies.  Meanwhile, the Alco S-2 powered commuter train waits its turn to move out and take people downtown.

Happy Thursday everyone.  Today in Central Texas we broke temperature records, its 79 degrees this afternoon!

Trackside today:  It's the Transition Era ...   Brakeman Little Joe Teasley has just laced up the B&O GP9 and a B&O 4-6-2 Pacific.  The GP9 will help the Pacific and its' train up a 2.5% grade which begins to climb in about 2 miles.  

On 6 May 1936, King George V and Queen Mary of the United Kingdom celebrated their Silver Jubilee and it was a joyous occasion for the entire nation.  In roughly July 1937 Brimtoy brought out their "Silver Streak" locomotive and matching carriages.  Here the No 2509 Silver Streak locomotive is ready to pound past the poor operator in that switch box trying to keep his concentration on sorting out the proper switch positions.  He is further distracted by the engineer of that red "Britannia" freight locomotive siting in the siding just waiting to get going and thus keep his schedule.  That Britannia locomotive is also from Brimtoy and from the 1930's.

The biker is in awe. He's surrounded by two GG1s and a  PRR steam switcher!

The Wharf District Yard is packed with freight and the power of several RR served by the river.  The edge of Savannah is off to the right along with the main freight warehouse and of course the yard crane stands by if heavy loads need to be moved.  Locomotives from several RR that use the yard as transit from the ocean going cargo ships wait at idle until their trains are made up. All this is real money to the Leonardtown and Savannah, in fact its just about most of its money.  Oh yea, the trolley stands by to take workers home to stops in the nearby city district and just beyond the trolley an interurban rail bus waits for those workers who commute to the suburbs.

Here are some Trackside Fishermen.

Amtrak is just about ready to disturb everyones breakfast sandwich at McDonalds and it currently holding up traffic for all those commuters trying to get to work.  Too bad folks, poor timing.  What's worse, and the Leonardtown and Savannah gets complaints about this all the time, the long express passenger trains when they stop at the depot, are long enough to trigger the gates at the intersection, so everyone waits until the train moves again.  Oh Boy, do they complain!!
